In memoriam - Rose

Rosie

Sadly Rose was killed in a RTA on 5th September 2007.

Mum and I went along to Skipton dog sale in May 2007.  I had looked at the catalogue and Rose immediately caught my eye.  Without saying anything I showed the catalogue to mum and she picked her out too!  This is because her kennel name was Whitethorne - and mum had previously owned two Whitethorne dogs - Rip and Witney.  When she came up in the sale we bought her, despite a less than impressive showing on the day.  We saw her pedigree and found that mum had bred her grandmother, she was descended from Witney.  As Gus Dermody handed her over he told me she wouldn't drive - I guess that's why he was selling her.  Well within 3 months I had her driving sheep quite happily.

She was a lovely happy dog, very keen to work - she had an unusual style which made somone say he thought she looked like a robot!  She never looked committed to the sheep, but I think this was her version of filing her nails while talking on the phone - because she never lacked commitment or focus, she was just very clever and could multi-task.

She loved footballs and was always pinching the puppies' toys from their kennel during breakfast.  I would find them hidden all over the place.  She had a lovely gentle nature, never sought attention but accepted what she was given.

I was devastated to lose Rose and I will never really forgive myself for that moment of inattention that allowed her to run off with Coire.  I bought a rosebush with white thorns which I have scattered her ashes under, she will travel with me now wherever I go.
